The arrival of some serious new players has relieved pressure on The Ivy, but the doyen of theatreland still takes up to a thousand calls a day.
Consistency rather than innovation has always been the name of game, standard Ivy food being fishcakes or a hamburger or roast chicken, with a decent selection at prices that won't frighten the War Horses. The excitement has always come from the patrons, where Joan Collins or Sir Elton might be at the next table.
