Green Plaque

2017 marked The Ivy's Centenary and the unveiling of the Green Plaque

The green plaque unveiling was attended by glamorous acting couple Jack Fox and girlfriend Samantha Barks, as well as Academy Award Nominee Miranda Richardson who shared her own fond memories of many evenings spent at The Ivy over the years.

The Green Plaque Scheme, which came into effect in 1991, celebrates buildings in Westminster associated with people who have made lasting contributions during their lifetimes.

The plaque honours Abele Giandolini, who opened The Ivy as a modest café in 1917 on the ground floor of a house in West Street. The current building was purpose-built on the same site for The Ivy in 1928, by which time the restaurant had achieved national fame. By the outbreak of the Second World War, the restaurant was enjoying global success and attracting everyone from Hollywood stars to Prime Minister Winston Churchill and legendary composer Puccini.
